So. Sarah decided to do the London To Brighton off-road ride. At approximately 70 miles starting at Kempton Park and finishing at Brighton seafront in September.
So Jedi and i (got) volunteered to ride this, even though i said i would never do this again.
We enlisted the help of Mandy & Lorna to run the cars to Brighton. We booked three high-class rooms at Sunbury travel lodge for the Friday night. The reason behind it was that it is less than a mile from the venue — £ 39 per room including a car park space, quite the bargain.
We agreed to meet up at 6.30 am for a 7 am kick off from Kempton. We managed to get going @ 6.48 am and off to Brighton.
Nice and steady start and got to the first stop at a reasonable time over 1 hr 10 mins and 12 miles down.
Second stop at 3 hrs and 15 mins and 27.4 miles done, this was at the end of a tech trail and a little bit of fun, the final part of the Surrey Hills to go. Sarah did an excellent job of the climbs and kept a good pace overall.
Hurrah, the top of the Surrey Hills at 31.4 miles and 4 hrs and 24, Don’t forget this is the total time, not the moving time.
Ok, so Sarah has a phobia of going downhills, and the new route took you down quite a ridden gully trail. So we took the old way; however, I took a wrong turn. We lost Jed for a short time. After finally getting back to the route we got the Downslink at 35.8 miles and 5 hrs and 20 mins. We managed to find Jed again.
45 Miles in, a quick stop at the Farm shop
Now for the long slog of the Downslink. So at 60 miles dead and 8 hrs and 36 minutes we got to the last stop. Now to Truleigh Hill.
Finally at the top at 62.2 Miles and 9 Hrs and 40, not too bad. Now for the downhill.
Over the line at 69.6 miles and 10 hrs and 26. All in all a good ride, all bikes behaved and for a group of 50-year-olds, we did ok.
A Good bit of sponsorship and a great day all in all, maybe again next year.
